Mega Room
When we found out that we had another child coming to our family, we knew we had to make some changes to our house. We have 4 bedrooms; two on the main level and two upstairs. The master and the baby room are on the main level so in order to make it the new baby's room, I would have to move Monson upstairs. That means that we have to fit 3 boys into one room, but that wasn't going to work with how small the room was. So we decided we should expand the boys room into what I call Mega Room.
When we bought the house 7 1/2 years ago, we completely remodeled the main floor and added a bathroom upstairs. A couple years later we finished the basement. We have done other things here and there, but the least amount of work has been done to the upstairs (just paint and a bathroom) so I guess it was time to completely remodel that portion of the house so it could be like the rest of the house.
There's a hallway area in front of the kids' rooms upstairs and that was the only way to expand the boys' room. In the picture below, the kids' rooms are on the left, the bathroom is the door on the right and this area is just open.
These are the doors to the kids' rooms.
It was really surprising (or shocking rather) to me how much junk we found under the kids' beds and in their closets when we moved the furniture out. Now I know what they did with everything when I told them to clean their rooms.

One of our employees has done a lot of framing so we had him do most of the remodel. His name is Ryan and he has been a really good employee for us. He knocked out the wall separating the boys' room from the hallway.
This is a view of the boys' room from the other side, looking towards what used to be the hallway. You can see how much space we gained. I knew I needed to be able to fit a bunk bed in there and it was too small before. But now it will fit a bunk bed and a twin bed.
Damon's favorite color is green so I knew that would be the color for the room. New paint, new carpet and a big room for the boys.
We also redecorated the girls' room. When we bought the house, their room had wallpaper. I always knew I would want to take the wallpaper down, but never got around to it. It's not easy to get wallpaper off the walls. Danielle worked on it a lot for a couple of weeks. Underneath a section of the wallpaper, we found a tree that someone had painted on the wall at some point.
Danielle wanted her room to be blue. I wanted it to be cool and fit for teenage girls, so we did this:
And this is their new closet:
The rooms aren't completely done still (these photos were taken in September) because as all remodels go, they always take longer than you think. We got the bedrooms to a point that they could be slept in, but there are still some finishing touches that have taken longer than we thought. I will post updated pictures when the rooms are complete.
When Anthon first brought me to look at this house, before we were married, and told me he was thinking of buying it, I was thinking that it was not a place I would want to live. It was out-dated, not very functional and unfinished. However, Anthon assured me that he could make it good. So he bought it and started remodeling it. A few months later we got married and when the main floor was finished, we moved in. Since then we have been able to make this house pretty much exactly what we need. Any time we have needed more room or more storage, we have been able to remodel and get just what we need. It may not be the prettiest house or biggest house, but we are so grateful for our house.

Secret Storage
When we decided to remodel the upstairs, we knew that we needed more storage space. We thought about building a storage closet in part of the living room, but I didn't want to lose any space in there. Our house is 108 years old, so there's all these weird attic spaces upstairs. The whole upstairs was an addition at some point. One of the attic accesses is through a little door at the top of the stairs. We have never used that access because it was kinda scary in there. It was just a crawl space that was unfinished. We decided that if we sheet rocked in there and added carpet, we could use it for storage.
This was the little doorway that you had to crawl in.

While Anthon was investigating in there, he could see through some of the roof slats and realized that there is another roof line past the one in there. Since they added onto the front of the house at some point, the roof line that we could see was interior to the new one. Anthon, being the genius that he is, thought he could break through and connect the two spaces to make a larger space. And he was so right! It took a little bit of work, but it was worth it.
He had to lower the floor of the new area to make it level with the old area, but we ended up with a pretty large space for storage! Since he could now stand up in there, he made the door way tall enough to just walk right in.
We now have a big, awesome storage room. Extra space that we didn't know we had in our house!
(This was the only time that place was empty. It is now full of stuff. We needed the storage space!)

Another Remodel...or Two
It seems like every year we are remodeling or adding something to our house. Luckily we purchased a house that has been perfect for that.
First, we knew we had to re-do our master bath shower. It was done wrong in the first place. It sloped towards the corner, rather than towards the drain. So there was always a puddle of water in the corner. The water leaked through the grout, cracked it, and the whole floor started cracking and shifting under our feet. So we had to tear the whole thing out, get it sloped properly and re-tile the entire shower. We even had to tear out the floor boards underneath the shower because it was all moldy. Not something we wanted to remodel, but it had to be done.
This was our old shower tile. We liked it and were sad to see it go.

More Remodeling
Just when I think we can't possible find anything else to remodel on our house, we find something else.
Before we moved into our house (before we were married) we completely remodeled the main floor and added a bathroom to the upstairs. After we moved in we finished the basement. Then we added a pantry and another master closet. Last year we added an office to our shop (and a bathroom out there too).
Now we are redoing our master shower (because it was done wrong in the first place and it leaked) and remodeling the upstairs. (Pictures to come.)
My house is a construction zone. It's annoying, but it will be awesome once it's finished.

New Room
We've lived in our house for almost 7 years and I felt like it was time for a different look for our bedroom. I found a new comforter set online for only $60 that included a comforter, coverlet, two euro shams, and two pillow cases. It was too good of a deal to pass up so I got some new curtains, made a valance (with the help of my mom who is an awesome seamstress) and got some new soft sheets and voila! We have a new room.

New Office
Over the summer we did a lot of construction to build an office in our back yard, attached to our shop. Our company is growing and we needed a place for a full-time secretary to work. Before the office outside was done, our secretary, Candace, was working in our little office inside our master bedroom. She got to hear me yell at my kids all day. Not ideal for either of us. Luckily we finished the inside of the new office a couple of months ago and she's been able to work out there now. Anthon also works out there a lot so that he can get stuff done on the computer without kids bugging him.
I posted pictures of the progress of the outside of the office here.
The inside has been done for a couple of months and I finally have pictures of that. We love the new office. We feel much more official as a company and it's so nice to have a quiet place to work without having to go far away. It's perfect!
We also built a bathroom. We will be getting a washer and dryer for it soon so they can wash all their dirty work stuff out there and not in my house.

New Paint
I go to the Parade of Homes every year with my mom. This year we noticed that instead of the earth tones for paint color that we've seen over the past few years, there were more cool tones like blue and gray. We bought and painted our house 6 years ago and painted mostly earth tones throughout it. My living room is earthy with a brown couch and we recently got a new, soft rug in our living room that is beige. I realized about a month ago that my whole room was different shades of beige. All neutral, no color. So it was time for a change. My mom brought me some paint sample sheets and after going through them all, I decided on a color. My room is no longer beige.

And since our living room connects to our kitchen, I needed to update that room too. Kitchen before:
I'm still getting used to it because it is such a big difference, but I'm pretty sure I like it. It definitely makes my rooms look brighter and more open.

New Doors
When your are replacing some things, you might as well just replace a bunch of things. Since we were already tearing things out, we decided to tear out our old front and back door and put in new ones. Both doors didn't seal properly and we always had a big draft coming through the bottoms. I put some buffers underneath both doors, which helped, but they are such a hassle to try and keep in the right spot.
And our front door has too thick of a jam or something so if you weren't careful, you'd smash your hand while trying to close the door because the knob was too close to the jam.
We had always planned on replacing the front door, since the day we bought the house. It's pretty old and ugly and there are amber glass panels in it that have been painted over. We only got as far as removing some of the border to the door and that's why it's dark brown in the picture; it used to be covered with some white pieces that made the gap even smaller. So after owning the house for 6 and half years, we have finally replaced the front door!

The new front door changes the whole look of the house! It is soooo much nicer than the old door. It doesn't squeak, it seals properly, it's not from the 70's, it's not green, it doesn't smash your hand when you close it....just a big improvement all around. The new back door looks just like the old one, but it seals properly now, the trim isn't chipping and we put on a new door knob that has a code to unlock the door so we don't have to worry about needing a key. Love it!

New Cabinets
We ordered new cabinets for our laundry room about a year and a half ago.
They were installed last week.
Took a while to get them, but I love them now that they are finally in.
Here's a before picture...but after we cleared the huge mound of stuff off the counter top.

Yard Upgrades
With all the construction we have going on the shop, Anthon also decided it was time to upgrade our yard.
He installed three of these in the yard, two of which hold up posts for a volleyball net and the third is for a tether ball.
This is the base for the new basketball standard.
(The hole behind the hoop is for the trampoline. We pulled it out temporarily.)
And we are also planning on putting in a little playground in the back by the trampoline.
Our yard will be really cool and fun when we are done with it. We might have to start charging admission.
