The other day we were having left over pizza for lunch. We have a drawer full of condiment packets that the kids always like to look through. Monson found a jam packet and asked if he could put it on his pizza. I told him strawberry jam doesn't really go on pizza, but he insisted that he wanted it, so who am I to stop him. He got a spoon, spread the jam on his piece of cheese pizza and ate it. When he was almost done, he asked if he could have a bit of Sophie's pizza without jam. After he took a bite I asked him which one was better. He said the one without jam.

He's such a silly boy. There's no way that pizza tasted good, but he ate it anyway.

The other day Damon was misbehaving and I told him that he couldn't have electronics for the rest of the day. He thought about it for a second and then said, (in a sassy way) "Mom, that means I can't use lights."

Monson asked Danielle where the tablet was.  She told him it was on the rocking chair.  Monson looked around, but didn't see it.  Danielle told him again it was on the rocking chair.  Monson looked at the chair we have in the living room and said, "That's not a rocking chair.  There's no rocks in it."

I told Monson we were going to have steak for dinner.  He said, "I don't like snakes for dinner.  They are biter and meaner."  (They bite and are mean.)

The other day I told Monson to get into the car and as he turned to walk towards the car I patted him on the bum (like I do very often).  He turned around and said, "Don't kick me."  I said, "I didn't kick you; I patted your bum."  He said very seriously, "If you kick me, I will bite you."  I was a little surprised by his response and told him again that I only patted his bum with my hand.  He pointed his finger at me and said, "But if you kick me, I will bite you!"  He must have been possessed or something because it was really out of character for him to threaten me like that.

After Damon got his black eye he told me, "Mom, I was scared when I saw my black eye because I thought I was a zombie."

Kids are so hilarious!!!!

Random Stuff

We call Monson the police man.  Whenever we are hanging out with my sister and her kids, Monson is always policing what is going on.  If the twins have a toy, any toy, Monson takes it from them and tells us, "Logan had this!" (He can't tell the twins apart so he just takes a guess as to who he took it from.)  We always have to tell him that they can play with everything and to stop taking things from them.  He thinks he's helping.

When Monson has something to tell us he tells it like this:
Me: Monson, what did you do at school today?
Monson:  I went to school, now I color, now I play toys, now I read a book, now I go home.
At first I thought he was saying "no I" but I realized that he's saying "now I."

I told Damon and Monson to get their tennis shoes.  They said "What are tennis shoes?"  I told them shoes you wear with socks are called tennis shoes (as opposed to sandals).  So Monson got his shoes and then brought his socks to me and said, "Here's my tennis socks Mommy."

Sophie loves everyone...except people wearing glasses.  She always has a smile for everyone, but about a month ago I realized that she had started to cry when some people would look at her.  I discovered that anytime someone wearing glasses, especially if it was a man, would come up to her and smile and talk to her, she would get the saddest look on her face and start to cry.  So now I have to warn people to take off their glasses if they want her to be ok with them.

The other day we were all getting ready to go somewhere.  I said the typical thing when we were getting close to leaving, "It's time to go!" but that usually means that we still have a few minutes before we will actually leave.  A few minutes later we were rounding kids up to put them in the car, but we couldn't find Monson.  We looked all over the house and outside, but couldn't find him.  I brought Damon out to the car to put him in and there was Monson, sitting in his car seat, buckled and ready to go.  This has continued to happen so if we are going somewhere and can't find Monson, he's already in the car, ready to go.

I refer to Damon as "Brother" when I'm telling Monson to have Damon help him with something or to go play with him, etc.  Therefore, Monson usually, cutely, calls Damon "Brudder."  The other day, this little exchange happened:

Me: Damon, please pick up your clothes.
Monson: Yeah Damon, you need to pick up your clothes.
Damon: Monson, you don't have to call me Damon.  You can call me Brother.

So cute!  He loves that Monson calls him "Brother" and prefers Monson to call him by his nickname.

Lately when I tell Damon he is right about something he responds with, "I'm always right."  It was cute to hear him say this, but I would remind him that he's right about most things.  Then he changed his saying to "I'm always right...but not more right than Mommy."  Now that's what I like to hear.

Monson's nickname from me has always been "Baby."  I call him Baby more than I call him Monson.  Recently, however, when I call him Baby, he says to me:

"I not a baby, I a big boy.  Sophie is baby."  And then he points to my tummy.

I don't want to stop calling him Baby though :(

Damon said to me recently, "Mommy, my shoulders are hungry." 

Monson said to me the other morning, "My tummy is full.  I want lunch."


Monson was having a rough morning recently and kept crying.  (He wanted to feed the cat a lot of food, but I only gave him a little food to give Kitty...so Monson cried.)  I was trying to take his mind off it so I asked if he wanted some yogurt.  In between cries he said, "No!  Because I'm crying!"


Damon was trying to figure out when Easter was going to be so I told him that first it was going to be my birthday and then it would be Easter.  I asked him what he was going to get me for my birthday.  He thought for a second and then said, "a ninja turtle!"  I asked him if that's what he wanted or if it was something that I would want."  He realized that that was not something I would want so he said, "No, I'll get you clothes for baby Sophie."  What a smart boy!  He knows that people have been bringing me gifts with clothes for the new baby.

While we were all at the dinner table, Danielle called Avery a brat.  I told Danielle, in a stern voice, that we do not call names in this house.  A couple of minutes later Damon starts yelling, "Names!  Names! Names, Mommy!  Names!"


When we were at the zoo, Damon and I were looking at two little fox-type animals (I can't remember what they were) in a glass cage.  One of them was sleeping and the other one was walking around near the glass.  Damon said, "That one is sleeping.  This one has batteries.  He's moving, he has batteries."  He knows that when his toys stop working, I tell him the batteries are dead.   Apparently he thought the same thing applied to living things too because he has told me that he has batteries too.  I informed him that they can move because they are alive.  But I think I may have contradicted myself when I told him later that if he didn't settle down I was going to take his batteries out.  If only that were possible.

The other night I got a rotisserie chicken for dinner, but Damon wouldn't eat it because he thought it was a monkey.  He said, "That's a monkey?"  I said, "No, it's chicken."  He said, "That's a monkey!"

My current favorite things that Damon says:

All of his prayers are my favorite!  He does such a good job and blesses everyone in the room and points at them as he says their name.  Each one is a little different too which shows that he is thinking about the prayer and not just repeating a memorized prayer.  It typically sounds about like this:

"Hevly Fader, sank you this day, sank you blessings, bless Mommy, bless Daddy, bless Monson, bless Buddy, bless Dee Dee, bless Anthon, bless Avery, goodnight blessing, Scooby Doo blessing, [not sure what that's all about] sank you food blessing, say things, name Jesus Christ, Amen!"

Love it!

Damon LOVES hugs and kisses.  He will hug AND kiss anyone.  And when he gives you a hug and a kiss, he says "huuuuug" as he hugs you and then "kiss" as he gives you a kiss.

The other day, Monson spit-up a little bit while Danielle was holding him.  Danielle freaked out and said she can't stand spit-ups.  I told her it was only milk, not a big deal.  She said she'd rather change a dirty diaper than be around spit-up.  I told her she was crazy because spit-up is way less gross than poop.

Damon was in the room with us, hearing all this and suddenly he said, "Milk and poop."

I kind of laughed and realized that he some-what understood our conversation.  Then he kept saying, "Milk and poop.  Mommy, milk and poop."

He will still come up to me now, weeks later, and say, "Milk and poop" with a big smile on his face.  He is such a boy!

Avery has become quite the story teller.  Unfortunately she turns non-fiction, into fiction.  She loves to tell us about things that have happened, but we have discovered that most of what she tells us is quite exaggerated.  Some times it is obvious that she is making something up, but other times when she tells us stories about someone, having true facts would be important.

The other day she was telling me something about someone and I said, "Are you making this up?"

She said, "No!  Well, about half."
